About The Artist

Ever since I was a child, I’ve been fascinated by beads and sparkly things. I can remember playing in my grandmother’s jewelry box, trying on things and occasionally “reworking” a piece or two! All through my teens and early twenties, I experimented with jewelry construction, making necklaces and bracelets for my friends and myself. I loved the bead stores and spent hours fondling the beads and putting them together to make beautiful things.

In 1996, I saw a class in beginning glass beadmaking being offered at the Birmingham Museum of Art. I jumped at the chance, because it naturally appealed to my love of beads, glass, and fire! By the end of the one-day class, I was completely drawn in by the magic of molten glass. I purchased a beginners kit that same day and off I went. Over the next few years, I took classes with several talented teachers, including Deanna Griffin Dove, Sylvie Landsdowne, and Rita Burkholder Robinson. I upgraded my equipment and expanded my space and continued to further my techniques and skills.

Today, I am a full time glass artist and jewelry designer. I take great delight in creating my glass beads and incorporating them into beautiful wearable art pieces for others to enjoy. I have done many creative things in my life, but nothing has challenged and inspired me the way glass has, and I can’t imagine being more happy, since I’m able to do what I love for a living.

So, you want to know something about me personally, eh? Well, I live in a suburb south of Birmingham, AL with my great and supportive husband, my four cats, and about 45 freshwater fish. Yes, somehow the four cats and the fish co-exist well together. A covered, cat-resistant hood on the aquarium helps with that.

When I’m not working, I love to read and I am learning to play the harp! I also play some computer games - MMOs (Second Life and DDO, to name two), and every year I attend Dragon Con, a sci-fi/fantasy convention (dragoncon.org ), which is some of the best geeky fun you can have over a 4 day weekend!
